Carbrain Baptist Church marks its half-century

A CUMBERNAULD church which has been part of the fabric of Cumbernauld for half a century met up in fellowship and friendship to celebrate this landmark occasion.

Carbrain Baptist Church had a most enjoyable saunter down memory lane with many old friends, some of whom travelled from other parts of Scotland to attend, including former minister the Reverend Brian Talbot.

The emotional occasion began at 2pm on Saturday when the former moderator of the church, Reverend Norman Rollo led a commemorative service - and ended with a barbecue in the garden of minister, Reverend Grant Hamilton the following day!

In the interim, members had also enjoyed a celebratory dinner at Cornerstone House which included a powerpoint presentation about the church - and lots of old photographs were poured over, bringing the memories flooding back!

And the Sunday service was doubly special too. For not only did it commemorate the 50th Anniversary, two people were also received into the church via adult baptisms - the first in four years.

Reverend Grant Hamilton who is just the third minister in the church’s history said: “It was a chance to reminisce and thank God for the people in the church. It was also nice to spend a bit more time with people you often just see once a week - at the barbecue we had 43 people in my garden!”
