Developer teaches kids lessons in safety

YOUNGSTERS from Kilsyth Primary and St Patrick’s Primary schools were recently given some reminders about health and safety by developers Taylor Wimpey.

As the company gets production at their Cavalry Park development in Kilsyth into full swing, Taylor Wimpey is keen to promote the dangers associated with playing near any construction site, and raise awareness of the children’s need to be extra vigilant as work progresses.

This type of activity and involvement with local schools has proven an effective deterrent in the past, according to Steven Laurie, production director of Taylor Wimpey West Scotland.

He explained: “Health and safety in and around our construction areas is of vital importance to Taylor Wimpey, and taking this type of proactive approach with local schools allows us to reinforce just how important it is for children to stay away from building sites.”

Mrs Jill Woodward, acting head teacher of Kilsyth Primary School, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Taylor Wimpey into our school to highlight the dangers associated with children playing near any construction site.

“Given the development of new homes has begun in earnest, we will have a significant amount of construction work in the local area for some time.

“It’s great that Taylor Wimpey understands the importance of our children’s safety, and has created such an interactive and proactive approach to appeal to our pupils.”

Mrs Patricia Clark, head teacher of St Patrick’s Primary School, added: “We thoroughly enjoyed meeting the health and safety team from Taylor Wimpey and their local site manager Angus Cameron who ensured that our children are well aware of the dangers of playing near or on a construction site.”

Taylor Wimpey’s team also highlighted the importance of staying safe and being seen as part of the International Walk to School Month ensuring that every child at both schools receives a high-vis bag tag for their school-bags.
