Fight will go on
The choice to name the amalgamated Abronhill and Cumbernauld high schools ‘Cumbernauld Academy’ was atrocious.
It’s not an improvement, or even a major alteration to the status quo; taking away ‘high school’ and substituting ‘Academy’ doesn’t change the fact that the closure of Abronhill High School will seriously disadvantage Abronhill.
Even the name, ‘Cumbernauld Academy’, masks any connection with Abronhill. However, given that only three names were up for ballot, I would suggest that the chosen name was the best of a bad situation, until the Save Abronhill High School campaign raise the funds to battle the closure in court.
