Neighbourhood Networks group launched

The charity aims to assist people either already living in their own homes, or working towards that objective, by building a support network of between nine and 12 people within walking distance of their home.

A community living worker will also be recruited, who lives in the area and is available to help the members experience new things and live independent and fulfilling lives.

The launch was made official on Saturday as representatives from Neighbourhood Networks and various community organisations gathered in Burngreen for a symbolic tree planting.

Adrian McKill, network manager, said: “It went really well, despite the weather – I think we had horizontal snow at one point!

“We had a great turn out, there was lots of people there from the Craig en Goyne Care Home, and we had Jean Jones, Alan Stevenson and Heather McVey.”

He continued: “Previously our remit was around supporting people who had the label of having learning difficulties.

“But with these new networks we’ve been given a broader remit.

“The members could essentially be any adult who is at risk of isolation, be they elderly, physically disabled, visually impaired, or so on.”

Neighbourhood Networks would like to thank Silver Birch nursery, the Friends of Burngreen Park and Craig en Goyne Care Home for their support.
