Tea dance invite to area’s senior citizens

SENIOR Citizens from Cumbernauld and Kilsyth will have the opportunity to put on their dancing shoes at an extra special Tea Dance to jointly celebrate Volunteer Week 2012 and The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The Tea Dance will take place at Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire’s Community Hub – a former church building in Kenilworth Avenue, Wishaw – on Friday, June 15, from 12.30 – 3 p.m.

A number of Jubilee-themed surprises are being planned as part of an afternoon of live music, socialising and exercise for the over-60s, including residents from local care homes.

Donna Morris, volunteering development services manager at Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire, said: “There is a clear community linkage between The Queen’s 60 years of service to the county and the invaluable service that millions of volunteers across the UJK give to worthwhile causes each year.

“As a result, we felt it would be fitting to link the two celebrations – and what better way to do it than to give something back to the generation of people that can recall the Queen’s accession in 1952 and Coronation in 1953.

“The focus of the Tea Dance is to provide a welcome service for local elderly patients and provide an afternoon of entertainment, refreshments and fun, with an open invitation extended to all senior citizens.”
