THE OWNERS of Ardenlea House in Cumbernauld Village have been ordered to restore it to a better condition.

North Lanarkshire Council has served a legal notice ordering the repair and preservation of the former library, located at the rear of the Village Hall.

Though once used as a library, it was sold by the council 10 years ago, with planning permission to turn it into a nusery. However it has lain vacant for several years, steadily deteriorating,

Local SNP councillor Tom Johnston, a member of NLC’s planning committee, said: “The neglect of Ardenlea House is outrageous.”
