Parents raise phone mast concerns

PLANS to install a mobile phone mast 100-Yyards away from a primary school have been put on hold to allow planning chiefs to carry out a site visit.

Parents of pupils at Eastfield Primary, in Cumbernauld, fear the mast could be a health risk to children.

The applicant, Vodaphone, has argued it is harmless and that the company needs to beef up its provision in the area.

Parent Lesley Christie said: "There are a number of sites in the middle of nowhere they could have chosen.

"I know we are told there is no evidence that these masts are harmful, but has this ever been tested?"

A spokesperson for North Lanarkshire Council said: "The planning and transportation committee agreed the request for a site visit and hearing, and this will be carried out in due course. A decision on the application will be taken when the visit and hearing is concluded."
