VIEWS are being sought on controversial plans by North Lanarkshire Council to start levying charges on car parking spaces owned by the authority.

The proposals, which have just gone out for public consultation, come as the council tries to save millions of pounds in the face of swingeing public spending cuts.

A total of 63 car parks – more than 4000 parking spaces – will be affected, including park and ride sites.

The cost of parking has also been unveiled, in a move described by one councillor as “reasonable”.
