The Cumbernauld area has had a long association with beauty pageants – which is set to continue with a local lass in the finals of Miss Scotland.
The town is home to current Miss Great Britain Deone Robertson, and in 1999 Miss Scotland was Cumbernauld’s Stephanie Norrie.
Now Katy McGlinchey (23), of Smithstone, is a finalist in this year’s competition, which will be held at the Radisson Hotel in Glasgow on August 26.
Katy said: “I’d never really been interested in pageants before, but decided to give it a go. I picked Miss Scotland as it’s more than just a beauty pageant, you have to work hard to support good causes as well. I’m amazed I made it to the final!”
Miss Scotland hopefuls are encouraged to fundraise for charities and Katy selected McMillan Cancer Support. She has already raised hundreds of pounds by competing in Tough Mudder and on August 14 will climb Ben Nevis in the hopes of boosting that total even higher.
