Milngavie nurse scoops £50k in radio contest

A Milngavie nurse is celebrating Christmas early after scooping £50,000 in a radio competition.

Nurse Lorna Shiels won the “life-changing” cash in Clyde 1’s Cash Register competition.

The mum-of-three, who has been working throughout the pandemic at NHS24, received the call from presenter Grant Thomson and plans to pay off her mortgage and help out her sons.

Lorna said: “I can’t put into words what this means. I did not expect this at all, it’s a massive surprise and I want to say a huge thank you to everyone at Clyde 1 for not only brightening up this difficult year, but also changing my life.

“As a key worker, it’s been a very busy year so we are planning a low-key and relaxed Christmas, but it’s great to know I can now treat my sons and help them out.

“I’m hoping that once the pandemic is over we will be reunited and can celebrate together.

“I will also be booking a holiday - I’m not quite sure where, but with this extra money it means I can stick a pin a map and go wherever takes my fancy!”

“ Lorna has spent her year looking after other people and keeping us all safe, so it’s great to know we’ve given back and allowed her the chance to treat herself and her family.”
