Police dismiss southside dog theft rumours

POLICE have assured southsiders that rumours of dog thefts around Queens Park are false.

According to sergeant William Eadie, of Gorbals police station, enquiries were made after stories circulated in the Shawlands and Strathbungo areas.

He told The Extra: “The rumours are due to a blue pen cross having been put on close doors and next to flat doors.

“Initially, rumours were that this indicated an elderly person resided within, then changed to that of a flat owner with a dog.

“Our enquiries, however, established that a person delivering leaflets had marked the closes to indicate that the address had been canvassed.

“We have had no formal complaints regarding thefts of dogs in Queens Park.”
