Police Scotland have shed more light on the incident which caused lengthy rush hour delays on the northbound M80 this morning.

Despite lengthy tailbacks following the 8.10am incident, there were no fact no serious injuries involved.

Police Scotland confirmed that the incident involved a two-vehicle collision between a Skoda car and a Vauxhall van.

The driver of the van was in fact uninjured but the car driver who is a 27-year-old female was taken to Monklands Hospital.

A spokesperson said that she was not thought to be badly injured and had simply been taken to hospital as a precaution.

The bulk of the traffic backlog was cleared by 9.30am.
