Police have narrowed down two Abronhill streets in their search for a frail 79-year-old man who has not been seen since Saturday morning.

Dad-of-three Thomas Lamb told family he was travelling into Glasgow and there was an unconfirmed sighting of him at Buchanan Street bus station around noon.

Later that afternoon, he was seen in the Carrickstone pub and CCTV footage of him exists walking through the concourse of Cumbernauld town centre.

Mr Lamb’s bus pass was used as he made steps to return to his Almond Road home at 6.10pm but he never arrived

Officers have no reason to believe that the card was utilised by anyone other than Mr Lamb.

Now police are asking residents in Almond Road and Lime Crescent to check their garden sheds as it is believed that Mr Lamb may have sought sanctuary there.

At a hastily arranged 2.30pm press conference, his devastated but admirably composed son Stephen faced the media and explained that his family have just suffered a bereavement.

Mr Lamb’s beloved wife Jane, to whom he was married to for nearly 50 years has just passed away and her funeral service took place on Thursday.

Stephen who lives in England said: “My dad has been very upset since then. This is very out of character for him. He is a real homebody and likes spending time at home, especially with his niece who has been very supportive, given the situation with my mum.

“We just want him to come home, just want to know that he is safe.

Chief Inspector David Bruce is urging locals to study the photograph of Mr Lamb and stressed that he is a vulnerable position because he needs daily medication for a heart condition - which he does not have in his possession

CI Bruce added: “Mr Lamb has recently been forgetful. He enjoys spending time in his shed and I am appeal to residents in this part of Abronhill to check sheds and outbuildings.

“He also enjoyed travelling into Glasgow city centred and would visit some pubs around Buchanan Street.

Mr Lamb will be familar to many who visit Abronhill shopping centre as he visits there daily to pick up his morning paper.

He has a distinctive slow and shuffling gait which is the result of an earlier illness and was wearing a navy blue jacket, a dark jumper with contrasting coloured narrow stripes and black shoes with a velcro strap.

Anyone who has seen Mr Lamb is asked to contact Cumbernauld Police on 101.
