Politicians raise college merger concerns

A letter sent from the education secretary Michael Russell shows the proposed forced merger between two Lanarkshire colleges will in actual fact likely see Cumbernauld College close and be swallowed up by Motherwell College according to local politicians.

MSP Mark Griffin and MP Gregg McClymont have expressed their disbelief at the letter dated June 7 sent from education secretary Michael Russell.

It informs that the vision of a merged college is erroneous and that approval has been sought from ministers for the colleges to ‘become a single intuition, which will be achieved by means of the formal closure of Cumbernauld College.’
