Council seeks views on rent

The council has set up a survey looking for views on whether it should make a major increase and how that money should then be spent, or a minimum increase to maintain current service levels.

Options for additional investment include more money for new kitchens, bathrooms and window replacements, better heating systems or building new council homes.

Des Murray, assistant chief executive for Housing said: “I would urge as many people as possible to take part in our short survey and help us best allocate our housing budget.

“Through our tenant participation programme, local people told us they wanted greater involvement in decision making. This survey gives people a chance to have their say before any options are chosen.

“We want to make sure we set good value, affordable rent levels while continuing to deliver a high quality service to our tenants.”

Currently, rents charged by the council are the third lowest in Scotland.

The council is also investing £250m over the next five years in its existing housing stock as well as building over 2,000 new homes.

Paper copies are also being sent out to every tenant.

The council will decide the rent increase for 2017/18 when it sets the budget in February.
