Former Carbrain soldier Alexandar Alum joined fellow members of the Regimental Association of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards at the unveiling of the new war memorial in Dennistoun.

The £17,000 2.5 tonnes tribute was petrol bombed a few weeks before, but the unveiling went ahead with S/Major Dick Gilmour, a former Cameronian, doing the honours.

The unveiling attracted a large turnout of Glasgow residents, plus representatives of the three services plus the Air Force Cadets and other youth organisations.

After the service in Alexandra Park the local Masonic Club hosted refreshments and a buffet.

Meanwhile, John Dempster, a former S/Sgt in Royal Scots Dragoon Guards and currently a health and safety adviser at New College Lanarkshire, is hosting The Big Brew Up at the college’s Cumbernauld Campus on Tuesday. October 30, from 10am-2pm in aid of SSAFA - the Armed Forces Charity.
