The £17,000 2.5 tonnes tribute was petrol bombed a few weeks before, but the unveiling went ahead with S/Major Dick Gilmour, a former Cameronian, doing the honours.

The unveiling attracted a large turnout of Glasgow residents, plus representatives of the three services plus the Air Force Cadets and other youth organisations.
