Long awaited road safety works have at last started at The Loaning

Construction work is  now fully underway on the the first stage of road safety measures on The Loaning.

The much anticipated operation being carried out by North Lanarkshire Council, is starting at the junction of Logan’s Road and will progress towards Dechmont Avenue.
It is expected to be substantially complete by December 18
Temporary traffic lights will be erected on the site as operations get underway.
The works will include the installation of a mini-roundabout, a puffin pedestrian crossing outside shops and the widening of a footpath on the road’s east side.

Construction of the Stage Two  works at the Ailsa Family Learning Centre, will take place in early 2021.

Detailed plans are continuing to be developed for Stage 3 at the junction of Ladywell Road and Stage 4 at the junction with Hamilton Road.

This package of measures will address community road safety concerns along the length of The Loaning.

The works are of course the consequence of a hard-fought community campaign following the death of popular Motherwell schoolgirl Abbie McLaren (12) who was tragically killed by a speeding driver on the main thoroughfare on February 12  2019.
