He said: “We’re absolutely delighted with our new home, we moved here from a four-in-a-block with a communal entry and having our own front and back door is fantastic. I love DIY and have been busy making our new house a home.

“Both Brenda and I really enjoy pottering about in our garden. Our grandchildren love playing here too.

“It was more difficult while we were living in our flat but having this outdoor space has made all the difference.”

North Lanarkshire provost Jean Jones unveiled a plaque to mark the completion of the development.

Meanwhile, a planning hearing took place this month for two joint developments proposed by Clyde Valley Housing Association and Wilson Developments.

Despite 88 objections permission was granted for ten two bedroom and eight one bedroom flats to be built on the site of the former Red Coymn pub in Kildrum.

A mixed residential development at the junction of Main Road and Airdrie Road in Condorrat was given the go ahead after a block of flats was removed cutting the number of units on site from 27 to 21.

However, at a separate planning meeting Cala Homes’ application to build 56 houses (reduced from 71) on the former 12th hole of Westerwood golf course was refused.
