The SNP’s Neil Gray has been re-elected as the MP for Airdrie and Shotts.

In acknowledging his third term Mr Gray paid respects to his supporters and opponents for their campaigning efforts and called the result a “clear message” that the people of North Lanarkshire want Monklands Hospital to be rebuilt in its current location and “to keep Gartcosh off the table”.
In her concession speech Labour’s Helen McFarlane also thanked the police and emergency services for their action in dealing with a suspicious package in Motherwell that morning.

She stressed she would continue to campaign on behalf of people in the constituency as a trade unionist and NHS worker even if she would not serve as their MP.
