SNP hold Cumbernauld and Kilsyth

Mr Hepburn will now serve his third term as an MSP, and second as the constituency representative for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth, polling 17,015 versus Mark Griffin’s 7,537 for Labour.

During his acceptance speech Mr Hepburn thanked his opponents for a “good-natured” campaign and particularly complimented Mr Griffin, who may still be elected on the Central Scotland Regional List. He said that the victory represented approval of his party’s work and hoped it was also an endorsement of his own efforts during the last Parliament.

Mr Hepburn also vowed to do his best to represent the people of Cumbernauld and Kilsyth and spoke of his pride in the area, its people and its amenities.

The electorate of 49,881 returned 28,401 votes. Of these, 17,015 were to the SNP, 7,537 for Labour, 3,068 for the Conservatives and 688 for the Liberal Democrats.
