Princess Anne visits Coalburn

A CROWD of band members, school children and other well wishers greeted HRH the Princess Royal on her visit to Coalburn.

Princess Anne was invited to the village to mark Coalburn Silver Band's hall renovation and she spoke at length to each band member.

Arriving at 3pm on Monday, the Princess was greeted by band president Alan Court.

Alan said: "I found it an absolute pleasure to meet the Princess. I was nervous beforehand but she put me at ease right away and was very relaxed when meeting everyone.

"She took so much time just meeting every single member of the band who was here."

Princess Anne unveiled a plaque to mark the hall opening and was the first to write in the band's new guestbook.

Pupils from Coalburn Primary were given the afternoon off, with many making Scottish flags and placards to welcome the Princess.
