Protese will see angry crowds gather outside defunct Croy club

A protest is due to take place tonight (Friday) in Croy, as locals express anger about the unexpected sale of Croy Miners' Welfare.

A group called Croy Regeneration Forum has confirmed that it will gather outside the club at 6pm.

The former community hub has been sold to a mystery buyer, before a public auction scheduled for August, had taken place.

The centre closed back in 2013, following financial problems.

And the purchase quashes hopes that the building could be bought back for the community.

The Big Lottery Fund had been overseeing the building and has faced criticism over the handling of the sale - but insists it had no choice but to accept the offer.
