Pudsey boost from Burns Supper

The 16th annual event was held this year in the newly refurbished Motherwell Concert Hall and a total of £7703.23 was collected for the BBC appeal.

The charity mascot Pudsey Bear visited North Lanarkshire Council’s headquarters in Motherwell recently to collect the funds which will help organisations supporting children in the UK aged 18 and under who have mental, physical or sensory disorders; behavioural or psychological disorders; are living in poverty or situations of deprivation; or suffering through distress, sexual abuse or neglect.

This year alone, the charity has granted money to several Cumbernauld-based organisations including the Central Play scheme, the Link Children’s Club, Rascals CC, Scottish Centre for Children with Motor Impairments and the Scottish Spine Bifida Association.

Provost Jim Robertson presented the cheque to Pudsey Bear and Fraser Falconer, who is the Scottish co-ordinator for BBC Children in Need.

Provost Robertson said: “On behalf of the council, our sponsors M&Ds Scotland’s Theme Park and everyone who supported this year’s Burns Supper, I am delighted to be able to present this cheque to the Children in Need appeal which works tirelessly in helping some of the most vulnerable young people in the UK.

“Our Burns Supper nights are always great occasions, and over the years almost £150,000 has been raised towards improving the lives of children who are ill, disabled or in need of care and attention.”
