Queen’s Guide Award for Sarah

Brownie leader Sarah Peachey has been awarded the Queen’s Guide Award.

The 26-year-old has proven herself to be a powerful force for good in her community, having spent several years completing a series of demanding challenges to achieve the top honour.

Sarah, who leads Brownie and Senior Section groups in Carbrain, was presented with the prestigious award by Chief Guide Gill Slocombe at a special ceremony held at Goldsmiths’ Hall in London on November 21.

The Queen’s Guide Award, open to young women in guiding, sets members a series of demanding challenges, and to achieve her award, Sarah joined an expedition around the historic sites of Arran, took her Brownies to a carnival at Scone Palace, learned the flute and joined a wind ensemble, and attended a jamboree in Sweden with 36,000 Guiding and Scouting members from all over the world.

Sarah, who teaches dance, music, drama and visual arts around Scotland and is a volunteer park ranger in Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, said: “The biggest challenge for me was the expedition section. I felt a great sense of achievement in completing my training, learning to read a map and navigating my way round the island for four days, carrying all my equipment. It’s allowed me to travel, given me the opportunity to try activities I never would have and, most importantly, make new friends from all over the world.”

Chief Guide Gill Slocombe, added: “The Queen’s Guide Award embodies all that’s best about guiding.”
