Reaction to Cumbernauld “pride” award

THE SPOTLIGHT has fallen on Cumbernauld for all the right reasons - after the town won the Scottish Civic Pride Award.

Cumbernauld News editor Jack Shennan proudly accepted the award which was handed over at a glitzy ceremony in Glasgow on Friday - after the town beat the likes of Peebles, Linlithgow and Pitlochry for the laurels.

He told the crowds: “For too long Cumbernauld has been Scotland’s whipping boy. The presentation of this award has helped to lance a particularly troublesome carbuncle.”

He was of course referring to the notorious award which Cumbernauld has received TWICE for having the worst architecture in Scotland - but this dubious accolade has finally been eclipsed by the sheer scale of of a public vote.

Awards director Gordon Young said: “This award sends out a strong message that far from being a dismal town Cumbernauld is in fact a great place to live.”
