Reassurance over trust plans for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth

NORTH Lanarkshire Council has rebuffed rumours that landmark Colzium House is to be transferred to an English-based trust.

Claims published on Facebook state that ownership of the historic property would soon be leaving the portfolio of the cash-strapped local authority, but a council spokesman has told the News this is not the case.

However ,the council is looking into setting up an NPDO, a nonprofit company, to run numerous services including libraries and community education centres. Leisure centres and sports stadia are already controlled by a similar organisation, North Lanarkshire Leisure.

The additional funding sources available to NPDOs could reduce expenditure by £800,000 per year. NLC plans to launch a programme of information events on these plans later in the year.
