Residents raise £600 for local club

Chefs Brian McClellan and Colin James Barron offered to prepare a three-course lunch for residents at the Newton Mearns complex.

This then grew into an opportunity to raise funds for Mearns Kirk Lunch and Social Club for people with Dementia and Brian and Colin were quick to assist with fund-raising and support.

Julie Max also got involved offering to entertain guests for free and Brian’s and Colin’s employers, Nuncio and Mariano Russo from Mediterraneo restaurant in Ingram Street, sponsored them. Most of the food was donated by their suppliers G H Davidson family butchers, Premiere produce and Food Options.

The two chefs raised most of the money with some help from Fordyce Court tenants and the sum of £600 was handed over to representatives of the Mearns Kirk Lunch and Social Club.

Catherine Craig, Fordyce Court warden, said: “The tenants had a fantastic lunch, it was absolutely delicious, the entertainment was first class and we can’t thank everyone enough for their time and support.”
