Residents say council is not dealing with floods

FRUSTRATED residents who have experienced flooding in their area claim North Lanarkshire Council are not dealing effectively with the problem.

A number of areas of Cumbernauld including Barbeth Road, Maree Drive and Craiglinn have been hit with floods, and residents living in those areas feel not enough is being done.

They have therefore contacted SNP MSP for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth Jamie Hepburn in a bid for a more proactive approach from North Lanarkshire Council to dealing with the problem.

Mr Hepburn has written to the chief executive of North Lanarkshire Council, Gavin Whitefield, because many of his constituents have stated that they have previously experienced localised flooding and despite weather warnings in place, when they contacted the local authority for help or support, they have not received any.

It has also been reported to Mr Hepburn that individuals who have used the council’s flood reporting e-mail system on the local authority’s website have to date yet to receive a response.

In his letter, he also points out that there appears to be no directly accessible telephone number to report flooding to North Lanarkshire Council, nor is there an emergency out of hours contact number.

The council, however, list an out of hours contact number for other neighbouring local authorities.
