Right royal retinue

Pretty Abbie will be adding a regal touch to the highlight of the town’s social calender - Kilsyth Civic Week, which gets under way on Saturday, June 9.

Naturally her retinue will be there to help and we can now reveal the rest of this year’s line up (l-r)

The royal party will be chiming in with a wider royal theme as the event coincides with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The committee therefore decided that the title for this year’s event should be ‘‘60 Years of Reflection’ but that doesn’t mean for a minute that the event has stuck in the past.

For they have crafted their own Facebook page which generated more than 360 hits in just 48 hours as locals seek information about the event and share photographs of past civic weeks!

Secretary Jean Jones said: “We have already got a lot of interest with people asking how they can enter our talent contest for example - or wanting to go down memory lane.

“We hope that lots of people will be able to see it.’’

Jean also revealed that plans are already afoot to produce a BOOK about the event which will celebrate its 50th birthday in four years’ time.

“We have already been talking about this with a couple of people involved in local history publications - so we are definitely thinking ahead,” she added
