Road smash drama

A SERIOUS road smash in the Wilderness Brae plunged Cumbernauld into rush hour traffic chaos on Thursday (December 15)

Police began to receive calls from horrified motorists who saw a car hit a lamppost around 5pm.

The impact not only turned the car upside down but uprooted the lamppost in the process. Although another driver was ‘clipped’ in the collision, he was unhurt.

However, the female driver of the car in question – a Nissan Micra – had to be cut out her vehicle and was rushed to Monklands Hospital. We understand that she sustained a series of fractures in the crash.

The circumstances of the crash are now under investigation by police – who had to put a series of far-reaching diversions into place.

Motorists were stuck in Central Way and there are reports of drivers taking 30 minutes to travel a mile.
