Royal recognition for Cumbernauld rescue boss

A CUMBERNAULD man has been awarded the Queen’s Fire Service Medal at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh by Her Majesty the Queen.

Westerwood resident David Smith (50) received this ultra-prestigious award last week after scaling the ranks within Strathclyde Fire and Rescue – which he had served for more than three decades.

David had been among those honoured in the Queen’s New Years Honours List for the contribution he has made not simply to firefighting but the outreach work and fire prevention that is so key to the work of the fire service these days.
