Royal recognition for dedicated firefighters

THE commander of Kilsyth Community Fire Station has been given an award for distinguished service in the New Year’s Honours.

THE COMMANDER of Kilsyth Community Fire Station has been given an award for distinguished service in the New Year’s Honours.

Watch Commander David Boyd is one of two Strathclyde Fire and Rescue personnel to receive the Queen’s Fire Service Medal in recognition of many years of excellent service.

David is in charge of Kilsyth Community Fire Station, which serves Kilsyth, Banton, Kelvinhead and Queenzieburn.

He said: “This is a huge honour – and something that came out of the blue.”

Also honoured is Group Commander Cameron Black.
