Rubble is now a grass bund

CLAIMS that a pile of rubble was left by builders in the car park at Auchinstarry Quarry have been rebuffed by North Lanarkshire Council.

The News and Chronicle investigated claims by readers that the local beauty spot had been left in a mess by workers who had descaling the quarry face, preventing rockfalls and improving safety for climbers.

A North Lanarkshire Council spokesperson explained: “A temporary ‘platform’, constructed of rubble, was in place in the car park of the Quarry to help the excavator reach the top of the rock face.

“The materials forming the platform have now been moved, covered in topsoil and seeded with grass seed. It will form a grassed bund that will prevent cars and visitors to the Quarry from getting too close to the climbing wall.”
