School of the week - St Andrew’s Primary

The youngsters have been learning all about pets, and they have had several visitors

into the classroom including a dog and hamster.

The idea behind the project is to show the pupils the responsibility that comes with looking after a pet.

The school operates a nurture room, which offers students a chance to learn in smaller groups.

The interaction in smaller groups teaches the pupils a number of things including socialisation.

The primary six pupils have been taking on a role in the buddy tours.

The students have been showing new pupils, who will starts P1 in August, around the school.

The buddy tour is something the school has introduced as part of the new primary ones induction.

Nursery pupils have been hosting their own health week at the school.

They have been learning all about the importance of eating healthy and taking part in exercise.

The youngsters have also been learning about the environment.

World Cup fever has taken over the school with a league made up of countries featuring pupils from across the upper school.

It is no surprise perhaps that unlucky Scotland has already been knocked out off the competition.

A PTA sale was ongoing when the News and Chronicle visited the school and the pupils helped out by playing shopkeeper for the day and selling off items.
