School’s eco efforts hailed

The Lanarkshire Civic Pride Campaign marked the efforts of the pupils and staff by presenting the eco-committee with a cheque for £150 to help keep up the good work.

The presentation took place on Red Nose Day, when in true spirit, the children ‘did something funny for money’.

John Scott, head of Supercounty, said: “We congratulate pupils, past and present for their hard work, dedication and commitment to Eco-Schools Scotland – your efforts have helped enhance civic pride within Lanarkshire.

“We recognise that to be one of 23 establishments from 420 schools and nurseries across Lanarkshire working towards attaining this status is a fantastic achievement. Lanarkshire is very proud of you.”

Helen Dall and Eileen Sweeney from Mary’s Meals also attended the presentation to acknowledge the outstanding voluntary spirit and commitment from the whole school regarding the Backpack Appeal, a recycling project which helps children who have suffered war, poverty, famine or natural disaster.

Ann Kay, headteacher at Whitelees Primary said: “Every child within the school contributes so much energy and enthusiasm towards Eco-Schools initiatives.

“Not only is the school proud to be a permanent eco-school, but we are also a fair-trade school and show a great deal of pride in our environment.

She added: “It is also great to see Mary’s Meals representatives in the school. Although set as a P6 project, it has been a whole school effort.”
