Science goes pop at Abronhill High with a little help from will.i.am

A science project funded by US popstar will.i.am has been delievered to pupils in Cumbernauld.

The ‘It Takes Guts’ touring workshop came to Abronhill High School on Tuesday, September 3.

Pupils who are members of The Prince’s Trust xl club at the school took part in the workshop which was personally funded by the charity’s ambassador will.i.am and delivered by the Science Museum.

The session focussed on digestion and nutrition.

The workshops also encouraged young people to think about the inner workings of the human body, with plenty of squirm-inducing details and demonstrations to keep them entertained, including film footage from inside the human body.

Pupils then delved deeper into science with the Launchbox Challenge.

This involved the pupils creating their own chain reaction contraption from a mix of novel materials that included ball bearings and wooden blocks.

Finlay Laverty, of The Prince’s Trust Scotland, said: “We work with Abronhill to support pupils who are struggling at school, encouraging them to re-engage with education through our xl club.

“will.i.am’s generous personal donation is helping The Prince’s Trust to excite young people about science and technology while they are still at school and, we hope, will spark a lasting interest in these subjects for many young people.”

The Prince’s Trust supports disadvantaged young people to get their lives on track by giving them skills for work. Three in four young people helped by the charity move into jobs, education or training.
