Scrap metal cashed in to help charity

The locally based Scottish Spina Bifida Association (SSBA), is delighted to receive a cheque for £500 from Kilsyth’s Stewart-Buchanan Gauges Ltd, who have transformed their scrap metal waste into money to support this vital Scottish charity.

The SSBA is the first charity to benefit from the new scheme and was nominated by Margaret Bryson, an employee of Stewart-Buchanan Gauges Ltd, whose niece has spina bifida.

Margaret is a keen supporter of the SSBA, attending many of their functions including their forthcoming ladies lunches to be staged in Glasgow.

Taking a break from her work, in what is described as one of the UK’s largest pressure and valve manufacturers, which was established way back in 1870, Margaret said: “I am delighted we were able to raise the money for the SSBA.”

She continued: “I know first-hand the marvellous work this Charity does for over 3,500 children, families and young adults all over Scotland.

“They are the only lifeline for people who suffer from spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, for which there is no cure.”

Maralyn Boyle, who accepted the cheque on behalf of the SSBA said: “The SSBA would like to thank Margaret and everyone at Kilsyth’s Stewart-Buchanan Gauges Ltd for their donation and invite other local companies to support us in this way.”
