Gardens will be judged on quality of floral display; quality of permanent planting; quality of design and use of space and contribution to the visual environment.

The local authority wants to see entries for the competition regardless of shape or size.

Prizes of £50 high street vouchers are up for grabs for winners, together with a

certificate of success.

There is an award for the Best Individual Garden and a Neighbourhood Award, where neighbours make a combined effort to improve communal areas.

Mary Castles, executive director of housing and social work services at NLC, said: “Every year our awards celebrate the passion and hard work that has created some stunning gardens across North Lanarkshire,

“The awards provide tenants with an opportunity to highlight their area and show the real difference well kept gardens make to the look and feel of local communities.

“I’m always thrilled to see the results of months of hard work by our tenants and look forward to taking a look at this year’s entries. I would encourage as many of our tenants as possible to get involved and play their part in our Garden Awards.”

You can get your application to enter the awards by contacting your First Stop Shop, housing office, or log on to www.northlan.gov.uk.

Judging will take place in August and the winners will be announced at the local authority’s annual Tenant Conference, later in the year.
