Speed camera on tragic brae

WILDERNESS Brae is to be monitored by a mobile speed camera from next week.

Other measures to be introduced on the busy route include a 24/7 vehicle-activated sign telling you if you're speeding, and marked and unmarked police cars will also regularly monitor the area.

Believed by many to be one of Cumbernauld's most dangerous roads, it has been the site of ten personal injury crashes between 2006 and 2008, four of which involved serious injuries, according to Strathclyde Police.

Schoolgirl Sandie Warnock (16) and Francis Keegan (51) were both killed in a horrific collision on Wilderness Brae in October 2007.

The camera is being introduced by the Strathclyde Safety Camera Partnership following consultation with North Lanarkshire Council's roads department and traffic management police.

The maximum speed limit on this stretch of road is 50mph.
