St. Maurice’s pupils sample RoastCosy

Helen, a winner of the John Logie Baird Innovation Awards, has invented a re-usable, environmentally friendly alternative to tin-foil and named it ‘RoastCosy’.

Supercounty, Lanarkshire’s Civic Pride Campaign, immediately linked the new product with its highly successful “Lanarkshire’s Larder” project.

John Scott, head of Supercounty, said: “Lanarkshire never ceases to amaze me. Here we have an inventor from Wishaw who has tested, patented and manufactured not only a kitchen gadget but an environmentally friendly product.

“This is a marvellous gadget and I saw this as an amazing opportunity to expand the “Lanarkshire’s Larder” project and highlight Helen’s innovative product which is a truly exceptional Lanarkshire success story.”

Helen Waterston said after explaining the process of her idea and how her unique item works to pupils: “I welcome this opportunity to take my product into the classroom and speak with the home economics pupils.

“I firmly believe that there is an invention in each of us and with the right support and encouragement, the pupils at St. Maurice’s High could invent something quite wonderful.”

Marion Grogan, principal teacher of home economics, said: “The Lanarkshire’s Larder project has been a fantastic success at St. Maurice’s High. The project has opened an appreciation to the area and its vast array of produce.

“Having Helen visit our school has been a great boost to the pupils and will allow many great discussions on food product development and appliance technology.”

Eight other North Lanarkshire schools are participating in this Supercounty initiative including Cumbernauld High School.
