Stage school stars take their first step to fame

Backstage Theatre, based in Bishopbriggs, has seen a number of students land television opportunities, while Cameron Millar (11) and Jamie Campbell (12) beat hundreds of hopefuls to star as ‘Lost Boys’ in Glasgow King’s Theatre’s 50th anniversary pantomime Peter Pan.

Cameron, from Bishopbriggs, said: “It has been an amazing opportunity. Lots of hard word, an intense rehearsal period and two shows every second day for six weeks – but I loved every minute of it. I even performed on Christmas Eve.”

Jamie, from Kirkintilloch, added: “I remember standing on the stage at the King’s Theatre for the first time feeling so excited and overwhelmed. The audiences were brilliant and every show was just magical. I will tell my grandchildren about this one day.”

Manager Matt Bingham said: We are delighted with the success of Cameron, Jamie and all of our students. They have grown in confidence, technique and had a fantastic time along the way.

“We have had an incredibly successful year - receiving messages of support from Wet Wet Wet and West End star Marti Pellow and former Dr Who David Tennant.”

“We were also able to secure the vocal talents of Chris Tarrant for a cameo appearance in our December pantomime Aladdin. He was kind enough to record his lines for a Who Wants to be a Millionaire scene whilst on holiday in Cuba. The audiences couldn’t believe their ears when they realised it was the genuine article”
