Starbucks could come to Cumbernauld

Investors behind the new retail park which promises to bring 200 jobs to Broadwood area have been in talks with another major chain.

The seven-unit shopping parade has space for a drive through coffee shop and its backers, L&S Broadwood admit they have been in negotiations with Starbucks.

Names that have already signed on the dotted line are Aldi, Home Bargains and of course, Marks and Spencer’s Simply Food.

All have committed to already moving in if the development gets the go-ahead at North Lanarkshire Council.

An earlier hearing of the council’s planning committee, planners had recommended refusal on the grounds that the original application was for a supermarket on the site.

However, the committee has deferred its decision pending a site visit and a full hearing.

It has since been confirmed that this will take place on Thursday, July 21.

L&S Broadwood Development director Bryan Wilson said: “We are very committed to working with the planners and the council to resolve any difficulties they have with this application.

“We believe the 200 jobs this will create will boost the local economy and provide the people living in the Broadwood side of the A809 with significantly improved amenities they lack at the moment.

“We intend to honour all the conditions laid down in the original planning permission.

“ This includes major improvements to the local traffic system.”
