Store staff from Kilsyth take part in amazing charity fund-raiser

KIND-hearted staff from the Co-operative Funeralcare in Kilsyth took part in an unusual charity fundraiser recently.

Eight workers from the Parkburn Road establishment, some of whom are pictured left, took part in the M74 Bike and Hike Event, raising £600 by walking, running and cycling along the new stretch of the M74.

The beneficiary of the determined group’s efforts was learning disability charity ENABLE Scotland.

Jen Niven, from ENABLE Scotland, said: “The Co-operative staff seized the opportunity to get involved in this historical event.

“The event offers participants the chance to get family, friends and colleagues completely behind the partnership and enjoy a fun experience that will be talked about for years to come.”

ENABLE Scotland, and sister charity Mencap, are the Co-operative’s Charity of the Year. So far, a total of £165,000 has been raised, through various activities organised by the Co-operative Group Scotland.

The support will allow ENABLE Scotland and Mencap to launch a ground-breaking programme, Inspire Me, which will work with 20,000 people who have a learning disability.

The initiative will allow them to get involved in activities and training, plus volunteering and job opportunities.
