Students launch appeal

A Christmas campaign by students at New College Lanarkshire will ensure under privileged children in Eastern Europe will have presents to open on Christmas Day.

More than 25 students from the Entry into Work Programme are collecting shoeboxes filled with toys, stationery, gloves, scarves and toiletries.

The gifts will be donated to Operation Christmas Child and the college aims to fill more than 100 boxes, which will be given to children between the age of two and 14 who are living in poverty.

Almost 700 boxes have been sent to children in Belarus, Serbia and Ukraine since the project began four years ago.

Beatrice Soutar, events lecturer at New College Lanarkshire, said: “Our shoebox appeal is always extremely well supported by our students, friends, family and the local community. We hope this year the campaign will be another great success and we look forward to receiving all the donations.”

The deadline for donations is Thursday, November 28, to give the charity time to deliver the boxes. To contribute, contact Beatrice on 0300 555 8080 or e-mail [email protected]. Shoeboxes can be handed into the main reception of the Cumbernauld campus.
