Students win awards

A GROUP of students from Cumbernauld College have proven they are computing whizz-kids after winning coveted places in the national final of a prestigious industry contest.

Lisa Johnstone, Lee Scolin and Calum Henderson proved their expertise by winning awards in the regional heat of the Worldskills UK Microsoft Network Administrator competition held last month at Cumbernauld College.

Technical support student Lee picked up bronze in the HND computing category with BSc computer networking students Calum and Lisa picking up silver and gold respectively.

The three students were also amongst the top eight scorers across all the UK heats and will now go forward to the national final which will take place from November 14 to 17 at the Birmingham NEC.

HNC Computing student Douglas Bauld also picked up bronze in the Microsoft IT Technician category.

Computing lecturer Charlie Johnstone, whose daughter Lisa was one of the competition winners, said: “The competition was a fantastic success with our students picking up four of the nine awards. We only entered six candidates so this is an incredible result.

“It’s a tough competition and our students all worked extremely hard and deserve their success.”
