Sudden death stunsbusiness community

A WELL-KNOWN Cumber-nauld-based businessman who wanted to bring hundreds of new jobs to the town has passed away.

Jim Hunter, managing director of FECSA UK Ltd in Wardpark, died suddenly at home on Christmas Day.He was 66.

Mr Hunter will be remembered in Cumbernauld as a larger-than-life figure with a hearty appetite for shop-floor banter with his staff.

Mr Hunter had also been the managing director of two other local firms: Thistle Garments and Edward MacBean.

Just weeks ago, Mr Hunter told the News that he was trying to win big money contracts for his Westfield-based premises, which makes military uniforms and protective clothing for armies worldwide.

The News had been covering a visit to the plant by Member of the European Parliament Ian Hudghton and Central Scotland List MSP Jamie Hepburn, who was shocked to hear of his passing.

Mr Hepburn said: “I only had the pleasure of meeting Jim once but both Ian and I were very impressed with Jim’s vision for the site and his commitment to the local area.

“I am incredibly sorry to have learned of his death and express my sincere condolences to his family and friends.”

Mr Hunter was from Edinburgh and made his home in rural Stirlingshire. He is survived by wife Yvonne who was his dedicated personal assistant at FECSA UK.

Mr Hunter was buried last week at Port of Menteith Cemetery.

The future of the FECSA plant in Cumbernauld is still to be decided by the firm’s parent company in Spain.
