Cumbernauld and Kilsyth politicians are backing a campaign to freeze gas and electricity prices.
Ed Miliband’s high profile plan for an energy price freeze came to Cumbernauld and Kilsyth this week as local politicians lent their support
MP Gregg McClymont joined colleagues MSP Mark Griffin, and Cumbernauld councillors Bob Chadha and Barry McCulloch in urging the Government to freeze gas and electricity prices for 20 months.
They also want to put all people over the age of 75 onto the cheapest tariff and to introduce legislation to reform the broken energy market.
MP Gregg McClymont said: “I know from the large number of e-mails and letters I have received that rising energy prices are really affecting local households and that many people are understandably concerned at further price rises of around 10 per cent this winter.”
MSP Mark Griffin added: “The cost of living is one of the biggest issues affecting the people of Cumbernauld and Kilsyth and its time the Scottish Government stand up for families and back Labour’s energy price freeze.”
