Teacher Mairi goes to sea for reality TV

A CUMBERNAULD teacher is the star of a new reality television series with a difference – after signing on as a deckhand on a North Sea trawler.

BBC Alba chose Condorrat Primary’s Mairi MacLeod to take part a new five part documentary series called Caileagan an Iasgaich – or Trawler Girls.

Glasgow-based Mairi (36), who hails from Fernilea near Carbost, joined two other gutsy Gaels, Catherine and Caroline, to undertake a four-week challenge which pushed theim to the limit.

They learned all about sea survival, first aid and fire fighting as they sailed from Fraserburgh all the way to Shetland in a boat aptly called The Audacious.
