Teeing off for the longest day

Four Cumbernauld teenagers are set to tee off for charity by doing four rounds of golf in the one day.

Abronhill High pupils Scott Buchanan (16), Sam Rigley (16), Derek Brown (17), and Greenfaulds High pupil Rhyes Thomson (15) will complete the challenge for Macmillan Cancer Support at Palacerigg Golf Club on Friday, June 21 - which also happens to be the longest day of the year.

The challenge will mean the group will play a massive 72 holes of golf in one day, hitting around 300 shots and walking 20 miles.

Scott came across the challenge in a golfing magazine and asked his friends to take part.

The lads have been practising every Sunday and hope to raise as much money as possible for the charity through sponsorship.

A spokesman for Macmillan Cancer Support said: “It’s certainly not going to be easy, but for people who really love golf there can’t be many better ways to raise money for charity.”

Golfers who want to take part in the challenge can play any day between May and August, simply by getting a team together and booking time on a course.
